Biography

Ameer Sultan is an Indian film director, producer and actor hailing from the Madurai district of Tamil Nadu. He is recognized as a member of the movement of directors in the late 1990s to early 2000s dubbed the Tamil New Wave. His filmography includes the romantic comedy Mounam Pesiyadhe, the mystery thriller Raam, and the tragedy Paruthiveeran. Paruthiveeran was highly successful, running for over a year at theaters and garnering widespread acclaim from critics. It received numerous accolades, including two National Film Awards, six Southern Filmfare Awards and two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, among others, whilst being screened at several international film festivals such as the Berlin International Film Festival and the Osian's Cinefan Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema. Ameer made his acting debut in Yogi in 2009, and later on appeared in the acclaimed and commercially successful Vetrimaaran feature Vada Chennai, for which he won the Best Supporting Actor Award at the 2018 Ananda Vikatan Cinema Awards.
