He began his career in the early 1910s, writing for over 90 films and directing 29 between 1913 and 1962. Marischka is best known for the "Sissi" trilogy—Sissi (1955), Sissi – The Young Empress (1956), and Sissi – Fateful Years of an Empress (1957)—which depicted the life of Empress Elisabeth of Austria and starred Romy Schneider. These films achieved international acclaim and remain classics in Austrian cinema. Marischka's work is characterized by its romanticism and historical narratives, contributing significantly to the portrayal of Austrian heritage in film.
