Biography

Maggie Stables was a British actress best known for playing Professor Evelyn Smythe in the Doctor Who audio dramas produced by Big Finish. Originally a French teacher, Stables transitioned to acting later in life after retiring from education, beginning with roles in musical theatre. She made her debut with Big Finish in The Sirens of Time before becoming a regular companion to the Sixth Doctor in acclaimed stories such as The Marian Conspiracy, Doctor Who and the Pirates, and Jubilee. Stables also appeared in other audio dramas, including Sarah Jane Smith: The TAO Connection and Bernice Summerfield: Just War. In addition to her acting work, she served as a justice of the peace from 1971 to 2003. She retired from performing in 2013.
