Merle Oberon (18 February 1911 – 23 November 1979) was an Indian-born British actress. She married Alexander Korda for fame and won a prominent role, as Anne Boleyn in The Private Life of Henry VIII (1933). She was supposed to star as the lead in Korda's The Red Shoes even though she wasn't a dancer or had any talent. Leading roles in such films as The Scarlet Pimpernel (1934) advanced her career, and she traveled to the United States to make films for Samuel Goldwyn.
